The longest unbeaten run in Bundesliga history is over. For the first time since May 2023, after 43 domestic matches across 463 days, Bayer Leverkusen were defeated, losing 3-2 at home to RB Leipzig on Saturday evening.

Leverkusen had a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Leipzig came back with pace and penetration. Leipzig coach Marco Rose spent most of the game watching from the press box due to dissent. Leverkusen had been dealing with negative news stories throughout the week. Strained relations between Leverkusen and Bayern Munich regarding a potential transfer added to the tension. Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro made disparaging remarks about Bayern’s board member, but later apologized. Tah, a dressing-room leader, is in the final year of his contract and shows no sign of extending it.

Leipzig’s win marks a significant milestone, as they have not lost since February. They have assembled a talented team and feel positive about the current season. Leverkusen had chances to equalize, but Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi was outstanding.

Leipzig’s victory could have a lasting impact, giving them belief and momentum for the future.
